Key definitions: Party — a political organization consisting of three or more members Registration — a citizen being admitted to a party. Each citizen may be registered to a single party at any given time Census — a list of all members registered in a given party Census period — a weeklong period in between censuses Coalition — an agreement between parties to work together to further their political interests Political Action Group — a group of individuals that may or may not belong to different parties, whose goal is only to oppose an existing party or ideology. Article 1: Any group of three or more citizens have the right to create a party by creating a post stating their party name and founding members. Article 2: Every census period, parties must publish a census of ALL registered members’ usernames. Article 3: No party may register more members than one fourth of the previous census’s sum of registered members across all parties. Article 4: Any two or more parties may create a coalition between themselves, but a coalition may not have a combined membership count more than 150% of the largest party. Article 5: Failure to adhere to articles 1, 2 or 3 will result in the party being delisted for one or more census periods in which they may not register any new members. They may still vote and create propositions for council. Article 6: Should a party be found to violate a delisting, they will be terminated. Article 7: To enforce aforementioned regulations, an independent review committee will be established. Members of this review committee will be democratically through popular vote. No two members of this committee may be registered in the same party. Article 8: Existing parties will have a 2 week grace period after the first census to sort out membership to ensure they meet regulations. Some thoughts/reasoning: Why is one fourth the limit for party size? We want to ensure competition between parties to drive progress and avoid duopolies found in the American government. Why do we want usernames to be counted? To ensure some level of integrity and to ensure no new members are being recruited during a potential delisting. Why is 3 is the proposed minimum for a party? Because 2 isn’t really enough, but the sub is still small, and we want everyone to be able to find a group of like minded individuals. Feel free to ask questions.

I don’t fully agree with this, but I agree with this much more than that thing that VIES proposed

That's just because with ours, you would be dissolved

The ideal democracy has as many parties as the citizens wish. Trying to cut that is only counterproductive

There will still be many parties, it's not like we're cutting out even half of them

I don't really think limiting membership is a good idea, if people want to join a large party, it is their right to.

While that’s true, it encourages party splits and gives them specific ideologies rather than just being a bunch of right wingers for example

I think it'd be wiser to make the Electoral system better for small parties to do that.

Also one fourth is a pretty reasonable cap, and the whole point of the limit is to create competition

My concern isn't that it's too restrictive, I simply believe one should be allowed to join any party they wish regardless of size.

While I think that’s true, the option to create a party is always there

I feel like with no limits a bipartisan government like America is promoted and we all see how that’s turning out 😂

I believe the way to avoid American errors is not to limit membership, but make a voting system that supports small parties.

What would that look like?

Well it could look like many things, personally I would like proportional for council and ranked for the president, but for those who strongly support independents a multiple round system could work for council. Aka candidates who get little support get removed and then another vote is had until 7 candidates pass a certain threshold or some variant of that. If you think the presidency naturally creates too much partisanship to not do this then perhaps a prime minister would appeal more.

Most voting systems that support small parties only work with a large voter base. For example proportional representation would require having 50+ seats to be viable based on the current size of the sub.

This is a great system. While I hate the party bill idea as a whole, this is the safest and most fair way to go about it

I feel like parties shouldn’t really be forced to do anything, they should be able to go down their own routes, maybe they don’t have a lot of members but they’ve written a lot of laws or they’re focused on the judicial system, parties don’t have to be political. And they also deserve freedom to do whatever they feel like, not follow a bunch of rules

But the whole purpose of a political party is to run in government. Other groups can be formed under this bill, they would just not be allowed to call themselves parties.
