Proposition for Council: Vetoed r/TeenGovernment u/Different_Car_5558 posted 2026-02-26 16:47 UTC ↑2 · 63% 21 comments

Hello, I don’t really expect this to pass council, but I wanted to bring it up. I’ve noticed that mod endorsements often end up being endorsements for people in their own party. Since mods are elected in parties, their opinions usually aren’t neutral and often represent their party.

Because of that, I think mod endorsements should either be removed or clearly labeled when they happen. I do like the idea of parties and people endorsing other parties, because that shows who might have good leadership instead of just which party has more mods right now.

If you support this, please upvote so I can see if it is worth turning into a petition. Thanks for reading. Also Due\_Camel, you don’t need to write a long reply explaining why you disagree, I already understand you probably do. Have a good day everyone.

Here's the long reply. Everyone is guaranteed equal rights under the law. Including equal opportunities to do endorsements. Mods are not elected in their parties. I am the founder, I asked equinox to join, Equinox asked careless and dryeditor, and they have always been clearly labeled.

hmmm does that mean I can call my endorcements mod endocements as well? That would really screw things up. Also I don't care that you do it I care how you call it.

no, because you're not a mod. The endorsements are labeled as "mod endorsements" because I'm a mod doing endorsement

Yet there is no law saying what you call something has to be true, right? There are also no copyright laws about it. And I am a mod in a sub (just not this one), so in theory…

Section 14 Article 1 of the constitution is here to disagree Article 1: The freedom of speech and political expression for all citizens shall not be obstructed by the government, with possible exemptions for misinformation

Hmm, but it’s not misinformation, right? I am a mod, just not here. So basically, if I specify that I’m not referring to being a mod here, then it’s fine, right? (Yes, I’m super annoying when it comes to loopholes!)
Due_Camel6262  2026-02-26 17:16 UTC  ↑5
I'll remove it because it is misinformation, you can sue me if you want

I won’t, that isn’t really my thing. That fits more for you, don’t you think? I’m just here to debate about it, find problems, and suggest solutions.

Also looked up the law and from how I read it its something like this: "you can mimic the style, but you can’t falsely claim it." Might be reading it wrong tho...

that's real laws, dont conflate with sub laws

I like endorsements, but mod endorsements do give off the illusion of officiality that they do not have.

Agreed!
Kooky_Marketing_327  2026-02-26 18:20 UTC  ↑8
I agree, maybe we could just call them “endorsements” like normal endorsements.
Due_Camel6262  2026-02-26 18:24 UTC  ↑1
sure, Founder Endorsements
Bob-The15th  2026-02-26 18:31 UTC  ↑2
Legally, as long as it's accurate what someone calls their endorsement cannot be regulated, whether it's best practice can be debated but it is protected speech.
